Vistaprint Study on Millennial Side Jobs:More than one-third of millennial respondents (36%) have already turned a hobby into a side business alongside their career. And 55 percent admitted they would like to turn a hobby into a side business but are yet to take the leap.A majority (73%) of millennial respondents agree that today’s generation needs a side hustle to help with finances.On average, millennials report bringing in an additional $1,262.70 per month (post-tax) through their side hustles. That’s an average of $15,152.40 annually – working an average of 17 hours per week on their side business. This compares to the annual U.S. federal minimum wage income of $15,080 (pre-tax) for a full-time employee working 40 hours a week.More than half (52%) would like to grow their side business in the near future, but say they’d need to make a big jump in income (avg. of $4,300 / month) before making the leap to full-time.Nearly 45% of millennial respondents say they have a side hustle to help with finances or increase disposable income. Another 35% say they’ve created a side business so they can be their own boss and do something they enjoy. Data was collected between June 14-19, 2019. All participants are double-opted in to take part in research and are paid an amount depending on the length and complexity of the survey. This survey was overseen and edited by the OnePoll research team, who are members of the MRS and have corporate membership to ESOMAR.Courtney Faison works two jobs to support her daughter and live the life she always wanted. Working for Arbonne allows her to put in a few extra hours at night while her daughter is in bed.Myriam Michel Alexis is a wife, mother, homeowner, works two jobs and is a millennial. She is the founder of M&M Elite Events.
