MGM Macau has held a seminar on Chinese Consumer Behavior: Challenges and Trends together with the University of Macau (UM), with a focus on the recovery of the local tourism market as mainland visitation numbers gradually increase.

With over 200 people participate the event first held a session on “Sharing on Chinese Consumer Behavior – Challenges and Trends” hosted by UM’s Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) Associate Professor, Cheris Chow.

Chow then joined a panel discussion moderated by UM’s Assistant Dean of FBA, Lawrence Fong, with UM’s FBA Dean, Jean Chen; Executive Director of Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Tourism Destination Limited Company, Liu Guanhua, and Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations & Strategic Marketing of MGM, Tian Han.

‘With a focus on consumer research in Mainland China and Macau – the latter of which centered around integrated resorts, participants were able to understand the difference of consumer behaviour and habits between the two areas,’ MGM noted.

‘The information would help optimize strategies in brand positioning, tailor-made service, advertising and promotional activities, which will enhance the sustainable development of Macau’s integrated resorts’.

According to Professor Jean Chen, the seminar helped create a platform for industry professionals and scholars to explore on topics such as Chinese consumer behaviour, the digital transformation of the industries and post-pandemic economic situation, to assist in the recovery of Macau’s economy.
