The Weymouth School Committee is starting the search process to find a Superintendent for the Weymouth Public Schools. The Superintendent of Schools serves as both a district and community leader and therefore, as part of the search process, the Weymouth School Committee seeks as much input as possible from students, parents, families, school staff, and community members. This input includes what experience, characteristics and qualities the next Weymouth School’s Superintendent should have and what goals and priorities the School Committee should focus on when screening candidates. There will be a number of ways individuals can provide input.
ONLINE SURVEY
Below are links to an anonymous survey that we urge any individual – whether a part of the school community or not – to complete. The survey is available from now through 4:00 pm on January 22, 2021. This survey should take about 5 minutes or may take longer if you wish to provide a more detailed response. This survey has been translated into the districts three most common languages other than English including Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese. You may also direct other Weymouth residents to these links for their input into the survey. The survey is also available on the school’s website at www.weymouthschools.org.
In Arabic: translation, please contact John Brackett at the following email address: [email protected]
For other languages, please contact John Brackett at the following email address: [email protected]
Again, the deadline for completing the survey is 4:00 pm on January 22, 2021.
FOCUS GROUPS
The School Committee has engaged consultants from the Collins Center at UMass Boston to assist us in the Superintendent search. The Collins Center will host focus groups for parent group representatives, school staff and community members to solicit input about the type of leader and leadership that will best serve the future of the Weymouth Public Schools. Dates and times for these focus groups will be January 19-21 and facilitated via Zoom.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the information in this google form along with the reason why you would like to participate in a focus group. Please submit by 4:00 p.m. January 15th. We will determine if you will be on a focus group depending on how many people respond and notify you. Please note, we will focus on the same questions being asked in the online survey and, again, urge you to complete that survey.
SCREENING COMMITTEE
As part of the search process, there will be a preliminary screening committee made up of School Committee, school staff, parents, students and community members to review the resumes of candidates who apply to be the Weymouth Superintendent. To be considered, you must be available on the evenings of January 28th, February 25th, and for interviews on multiple nights during the week of March 2nd to March 9th; the exact days and times of the interviews will be determined by the screening committee at the February 25th meeting. You must be available for all the meetings and interviews. Please complete the information in the google link below if you would like to be considered for this committee, again, by 4:00 p.m. January 15th. Weymouth School Committee Chair Lisa Belmarsh will be determining who will be on this committee. We will likely receive more interest in serving than our process allows; the difficult decision will be based on our attempt to have a screening team between 10 – 15 members that represents the Weymouth community.
