First-day sales last week of the new iPhone 12 topped those of the iPhone 11 in its debut a year ago, an analyst says. However, sales were not expected to improve over last year during the weekend.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International securities said in a report that orders for iPhone 12 hit some 2 million in the first 24 hours.
However, he also said iPhone 12 sales were likely to hit 9 million through the weekend, down from 12 million iPhone 11 orders.
CNBC, which reported the analysis, notes that
“Kuo has an excellent track record predicting future Apple products and sales, so his reports carry extra weight, especially since Apple stopped reporting unit sales for the iPhone two years ago. Apple stopped reporting first-weekend sales of new iPhone models several years ago.”
