Comsat Architects in Rocky River has received a $250,000 National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research grant to support its work in space communication.
The funding will allow the firm to “conduct R&D work on a comprehensive cognitive communications payload module (C3PM) to enhance communications functions for groups of CubeSats, a kind of small satellite,” a news release stated.
The hardware and software module will allow for “intelligent networking” among the CubeSats in low earth orbits and improve data transmission, the release stated.
“NSF is proud to support the technology of the future by thinking beyond incremental developments and funding the most creative, impactful ideas across all markets and areas of science and engineering,” said Andrea Belz, division director of the division of industrial innovation and partnerships at the foundation, in the release. “With the support of our research funds, any deep technology startup or small business can guide basic science into meaningful solutions that address tremendous needs.”
