Law firm Ashurst’s newly launched consulting service is bulking up.

Street Talk understands the global law outfit has picked up MLC Wealth general manager Chris Baker as its new head of managed services for its risk advisory team, which sits in Ashurst’s consulting business that launched in March this year.
Baker has been at MLC for almost six years and served as its general manager of regulatory change and remediation for the past three years.
In that role, Baker was instrumental in helping MLC’s remediation of customers and response to regulators in the aftermath of the banking Royal Commission.
He will report to ex-Deloitte operative Philip Hardy who heads up Ashurst’s risk advisory division and joined the firm in March this year.
Hardy told this column that Baker was “highly regarded in the financial services sector as a remediation expert, and brings large scale regulatory change, regulatory response and managed services skills to the growing Ashurst Consulting division.”
Baker said financial services organisation were facing “more change and complexity than ever, particularly in relation to regulatory and compliance related matters”.
