Bikaner, Rajasthan: In a major embarrassment for Narendra Modi Modi government, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has launched a ‘papad’ brand amid crisis claiming that it contains some ingredients that help develop antibodies against Covid-19.

A video of the Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Meghwal has gone viral on the social media, in which he can be seen launching ‘papad’ brand and talking about its health benefits. However, TIMES NOW does not vouch for the authenticity of the viral video.

While launching ‘Bhabhi ji papad’, the Union Minister said: “It will be very helpful in fighting Coronavirus.” He further said it has been manufactured under the Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc across the world by killing more than six lakh people and infecting over 15 million globally. Coronavirus cases in India surpassed 12 lakh-mark on Thursday.

His remarks came at a time when Modi government’s approval ratings for its handling of the COVID-19 situation in India have come down from 80 to 90 per cent in April-June period to 77.3 per cent.

As per the IANS-CVoter Covid-19 Tracker, 77.3 per cent respondents believe that the Centre is handling the crisis well while 19.1 per cent disagree with Modi-led government’s actions on tackling the pandemic.

Covid situation in India

There was a spike of 45,720 cases and 1,129 deaths yesterday, taking the overall contractions in India to 12,38,635.

Maharashtra continues to record the highest number of cases with 3,37,607 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu at 1,86,492, Delhi at 1,26,323, Karnataka at 75,833, Andhra Pradesh at 64,713, Uttar Pradesh at 55,588 and Gujarat at 51,399.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on 23 July said that the premier medical research institute of the country has so far tested a total of 1,50,75,369 samples till July 22, of which 3,50,823 samples were tested on 22 July alone.
