The Massachusetts Association of School Committees, on behalf of the Arlington School Committee, is conducting a series of focus groups to prepare for the search for a new superintendent.

The purpose of the focus groups is to prepare a profile of the district and community that will be a resource for the search committee and potential candidates. The district anticipates advertising the position in September, with the goal of selecting a candidate by the end of the calendar year.

There will be three general focus groups for Arlington residents. They are scheduled to occur at 10 a.m. July 20, 4 p.m. July 22 and 7 p.m. Aug. 3. There will be focus groups for specific groups of stakeholders. Two have already been scheduled to occur: recent AHS alumni at 7 p.m. July 20; and Town Meeting members at 8 p.m. July 22.

The Arlington Special Education Parents Advisory Council has been invited to host a focus group. Plans are also being made to conduct a focus group with a focus on diversity and inclusion.

Schedules and Zoom links for all focus groups are posted at http://arlingtonsuper.com. In addition, residents and stakeholders who would like to voice their opinion can participate in a brief 10-minute survey. The survey provides opportunities to rank attributes desired for a new superintendent and offers opportunities for open responses. A link to the survey can be found at http://arlingtonsuper.com and can be accessed directly at https://surveymonkey.com/r/APSSUPT2020.
