Research from industry analyst Nielsen found the manufacturer’s sales grew 149% in the 12 weeks to 25 January 2020, compared with the same period in the previous year.

Meatless Farm was evaluated separately by market researcher Kantar as the fastest-growing meat alternatives brand in the UK, against a sector that has grown by 9.6% a year, having only launched its products in supermarkets in October 2018.

The past year has seen a wealth of progress from the manufacturer, including a number of new hires in both shop-floor and senior positions.

Support from Channel 4

September last year also saw the firm clinch a seven-figure deal with leading British broadcaster Channel 4’s Commercial Growth Fund as the development of plant-based food gathered pace with a host of innovations.

Founder Morten Toft Bech said: “More and more people are looking to reduce the amount of meat they eat, both for health and environmental reasons, and Meatless Farm is at the forefront of this change.

“Whether you are vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian, our range is suited to those who want to improve their eating habits, while still enjoying food that their meat-eating friends or family would recognise.”

Growth of the sector

With the continued growth of meat alternatives and plant-based proteins, it’s hard not to see how the sector has influenced global food and drink innovation.

In light of this, Food Manufacture proudly presents The Future of plant-based proteins: roots of further growth on 22 October, brought to you by Platinum sponsors Radicle and Roquette, Gold sponsor Atlantic Natural Foods and supported by Symrise, Ingredion and Firmenich.

The conference, at the Park Plaza Hotel, Amsterdam Airport, will look at the most significant international start-ups and product launches from 2019–2020, plus emerging trends for the next 12 months.
