Residents to be asked about health, other concerns at meetings beginning Thursday afternoon in Bristol.

Bucks County’s Health and Human Services review subcommittee, which was formed after the November election, is looking for input from the community on the county’s health and human services.

The subcommittee will meet Feb. 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bucks County Intermediate Unit, 705 B. Shady Retreat Road, Doylestown; and March 2 at Bucks County Opportunity Council, 136 Mill Street, Quakertown.

The group had its first meeting Thursday.

Kathleen Welsh Beveridge, who chairs the Health and Human Services review subcommittee, has set the three focus group dates to gain much-needed feedback from residents.

“We’d like to hear input and suggestions from residents outlining how we can potentially expand upon these vital services and/or improve existing services,” said Beveridge, who serves as president of the Bucks County Women’s Advocacy Coalition, a nonpartisan organization focused on bettering the lives of Bucks County women and families. “Listening to residents’ experiences with the health and human services departments will help guide us in our comprehensive review process.”

The Bucks County Division of Health and the Bucks County Division of Housing and Human Services provide various programs centered on staying safe and healthy, including immunizations, bioterrorism response coordination, family caregiver support, health insurance counseling for older individuals, drug prevention and recovery support services, child abuse and neglect inquiries, homelessness prevention, rehousing for families that abruptly become homeless, outpatient therapy for children and mental health services.

Beveridge and her subcommittee will continue reviewing these issues, specifically examining barriers that inhibit opportunities for Bucks County residents struggling to improve their circumstances. The subcommittee’s formal recommendations are expected by late spring 2020.
