The Chronicle of Philanthropy seeks a strategic sales leader to develop and execute a strong business model for our indispensable journalism and information services that help nonprofits and foundations change the world.
As the Director of Strategy, Sales, and Business Development, your work will be instrumental to our success by:
- Building a new strategic business plan to increase revenue and reach for a brand widely respected by its readers, advertisers, and others it serves. This will involve working with partners across the organization – in editorial, circulation, recruitment advertising, and more.
- Managing a small sales team to sell advertising and thought leadership products to corporations and non-profit organizations.
- Developing and driving business with clients at corporations, foundations, associations, and other organizations. This will include building new sales programs and recommending new editorial and advertising products to meet client needs.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy has a strong reputation for its mix of news, opinion, and how-to articles produced by the biggest newsroom in the country that covers nonprofits and foundations. The Chronicle is widely read by prominent nonprofit leaders, major philanthropists, government officials, and other journalists tracking arts, education, health, housing, and other philanthropic program areas. It also runs a popular webinar training series that offers fundraising lessons, marketing advice, and more to nonprofits nationwide.
The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of strategic sales and business development experience in publishing or the nonprofit arena, and a passion for spreading the reach of information media and our mission. We’re seeking applicants with demonstrated business acumen, including ability to develop and articulate business strategy and interpret financial data, three or more years of managing a sales staff, and five or more years of direct sales experience in which you met or exceeded revenue and sales goals. Audience and market research experience is a plus.
