The City of Dunkirk and Chautauqua County Office for the Aging, through a grant from the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York, have hired a consultant to get community input on the Dunkirk Senior Center renovations.

“We want to hear from everyone; those who use the senior center currently and those who don’t use the center and why,” said Dr. Mary Ann Spanos, Director of the Office for the Aging. “Before plans can be finalized on the addition to the senior center and to make plans for future grant applications to update other areas of the center, we need to make sure everyone can provide feedback on the project.”

“The input from the community is critical in helping us move forward with services at the Dunkirk Senior Center so we can learn more about the types of programs and services we should offer to better support our area residents,” said PJ Wendel, Chautauqua County Executive. “I encourage area residents to consider taking part in an interview or focus group to help voice their opinions about the future of the center.”

James Snack, a consultant from University of Albany Communications Department, will be conducting one-on-one interviews and focus groups on Friday and Saturday at the senior center and other locations around the City of Dunkirk. All information will be kept confidential and only shared in aggregate form.

To make an appointment to be interviewed by Mr. Snack or to participate in a focus group, please call Kate Finch at (716) 366-3865.

In addition, on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Dunkirk Senior Center, 45 Cliffstar Ct. in Dunkirk, Jim will present a program that is open to the public entitled, “The Magic of Change: Moving from Fear to Wonder.” This upbeat, motivational program combines magic, humor and message as participants will learn strategies for staying positive through change. Mr. Snack is a speaker and consultant who works with people who want to change with confidence and organizations that want to communicate change effectively. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

For more information call the Office for the Aging at (716) 753-4471 or (716) 363-4471 or the City of Dunkirk at (716) 366-9879.
