FLINT, Michigan—As part of their Focus on Flint initiative, over $1 million in grant funds from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation will be distributed towards Flint neighborhood projects for 2020.
Today marks the final day for applications for the nine residents who will have a say in the public voting process on those projects that will take place in April 2020.

Last fall the C.S. Mott Foundation held 29 focus groups with over 400 Flint residents. These focus groups resulted in 625 neighborhood improvement ideas like demolitions, beautification, home improvements, sidewalk, and street repairs.

“We’ve had amazing feedback from Flint residents so far, and we hope they’ll continue to be involved and apply to be a part of the Community Panel,” said Ridgway White, Mott Foundation president and CEO. “We want to hear from residents every step of the way, and we hope to have a diverse group of residents for the panel — people living throughout the city who offer different life experiences and perspectives.”

Chosen residents will serve on the community panel once a week from March 9 through March 29. In addition to further shaping the ideas that will be voted on, community panelists will be asked to review last year’s results of the focus group, help determine the number and size of grants, and rally other Flint residents to vote in April.

Applications will be accepted until 6 p.m. today.

Flint residents may apply online, download the pdf, or can pick up a physical application at the Flint Development Center, the Latinx Technology and Community Center, the Ferris Wheel, the Neighborhood Engagement Hub, the Brennon Senior Center, Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, the Flint Public Library, Flint City Hall, St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center, Berston Field House, and Hasselbring Senior Center.

Pdf’s of the application should be sent to [email protected] or dropped off to the C.S. Mott Foundation building on 503 S. Saginaw St., Suite 1200.
