The current President of the Springfield School Board will not be running for another term after being hired by the City of Springfield.
Tim Rosenbury will be the City’s Director of Quality of Place Initiatives. He plans to begin his job with the city starting on March 2. The position is a newly created role aimed to provide leadership for integration of “Quality of Place” initiatives into city projects.
“I’m excited to get started on this urgent and important work for our community,” Rosenbury said in a statement. “I welcome the responsibility, and I look forward to collaborating with our City leadership, our citizens and staff to make Springfield a community of choice, in my case by the way the public-built environment is experienced.”
The goal of the city’s “Quality of Place” initiatives is to “make Springfield a more desirable, competitive, and economically vibrant place to live” according to a city press release.
Rosenbury announced his retirement from BRP, formerly Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, on Tuesday. He is working to withdraw as a company shareholder.
He is also the President of the Springfield School Board with his term ending in 2020. He won’t run for re-election because of the new position with the city.
“We are thrilled to have Tim join our team at the City,” City Manager Jason Gage said in a statement. “We think we may be among the first cities in the country to create a ‘director of quality of place initiatives’ position and we are confident that Tim will help us collectively transform our community into an even more highly desired place to live, work and visit. He will be an asset to our nationally accredited Public Works team and other City departments as we move forward.”
Rosenbury graduated from Mississippi State University in 1980 with a degree in Architecture, joining with Geoffrey Butler in 1984 to begin building his firm. He has leadership experience with groups like the Vision 20/20 Center City Focus Group. He is a Leadership Springfield alumnus, former chairman of the board for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and served on the community advisory board for the Salvation Army.
Rosenbury will be a key player in the design of the new Grant Avenue Parkway. He will also assist the daylighting of Jordan Creek and other projects that will be created from the Forward SGF comprehensive plan. He will report to the City Manager’s office with a yearly salary of $115,000 from the city’s general fund. He will have an office on the 4th floor of the Busch Municipal Building.
