SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Drew McLachlan Memorial Fund is sponsoring the Food Security Project at the Somerville YMCA and will match all monetary donations through Feb. 10.
The DMMF will partner with the YMCA on Feb. 16 to distribute food to those in need.
There are several ways to help:
– Monetary donations can be mailed to the Drew Fund, P.O. Box 975, Somerville, NJ 08876 or online at https://www.thedrewfund.com/foodsecurityproject.html. DMMF is a registered 501C3 non-profit corporation.
– Volunteers are needed to help at the YMCA on Feb. 16th;
– Canned goods can be dropped off at the American Legion Post 12, 232 Union Ave., Somerville.
Born in Somerville, Drew McLachlan graduated Somerville High School, where he was a member of the tennis and cross country teams. He was a writer, humorist, athlete, and feminist.
He passed away in 2018 from a glioblastoma at the age of 32; soon after, his friends and family started DMMF as a tribute and have contributed to several causes, helping the talented thrive and the cancer fighters survive.
– Support for Brain Cancer Patients and Research – DMMF hosts 12 days of giving at Overlook Hospital in Summit at the chemo treatment center in December;
– Scholarships for the Arts and Education – DMMF funds an annual scholarship for a Somerville High School graduate planning to major in writing or journalism;
– Financial Assistance for Recreation Programs – DMMF provides support for young athletes in the Somerville Recreation program.
