The Nominating Committee of the Central Property Owners’ Association (CPOA) has selected Yvonne Rogowski Varano as Central’s candidate for the position of Village Trustee for the 2021-2023 term.
Ms. Varano retired from Jefferies & Co. where she was a Managing Director in the equity research department responsible for providing fundamental research on small and large cap industrial companies. Over her 21 years on Wall Street, Ms. Varano spent most of her time as a sell side Equity Research Analyst, analyzing corporate financials and making investment recommendations to institutional clients. She also has experience in Equity Capital Markets and Money Management. Prior to working at Jefferies she worked at Merrill Lynch, Salomon Smith Barney, UBS Securities, CIBC World Markets, and Nikko Capital Management. She has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times as a top performing equity research analyst in the industrial sector. While Yvonne was at Merrill Lynch, she was a member of the research team that was acknowledged by Institutional Investor Magazine as one of the top Steel All-American Research Teams.
Ms. Varano has been an active volunteer in Garden City. She has held numerous positions in the PTA and was a member of the Executive Committee for five years. She started out as 1st Vice President of Budget before becoming President-Elect and then President for the 2013-2014 year. She remained active in the PTA over the next four years, being elected to sit on the Curriculum Committee for the High School and Co-Chairing the ever-popular High School Skit night for Seniors and their parents. Yvonne has a solid understanding of the village financials, having been the CPOA’s representative on the Citizens Budget Review and Advisory Committee (CBRAC) for the past two years, attending all Board of Trustee budget meetings. Yvonne also sits on St. Joseph’s Church parish council in addition to being a lector at the parish for over 20 years.
When asked for a statement, Ms. Varano said “I am committed to volunteering my services to represent the interests of the community that I care so much about. I hope to add positive input to the conversations of the Board as the Village tackles the many issues it is facing. I believe my strong financial background will be an asset as the Village looks to maintain its fiscal conservatism that residents have grown to expect. It is important, in my opinion, for the village to evolve in changing times without losing the traditions and history that make Garden City such an attractive place to live. I will also make every effort to preserve the unique sense of community and quality of life that our village has to offer both for current residents and future generations.”
Mrs. Varano is a life-long resident of Garden City and she and her husband have raised their three children in the Village. A graduate of Garden City High School, Yvonne furthered her education at St. Lawrence University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She went on to receive an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
The following are the members of the Nominating Committee that brought forth the nomination of Yvonne Varano as Central’s candidate for Village Trustee for the 2021-2023 term: Donald J.
