WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The restrictions and regulations that were put into place to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Council to cancel or move scheduled events.
Meredith Cobb, research administration specialist for Purdue University Agricultural Research and Graduate Education, said the purpose of the Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Council is to research, bring public attention to the sheep industry and sales promotions.
Cobb said the council is what funds the Sheep and Wool Checkoff and helps support the program through market development.
Cobb said one thing the council does is work with the Indiana Sheep Association to host an annual sheep shearing school.
Right now, Cobb said, the council is accepting requests for funding for projects.
Cobb said to make sure that the funding for the Sheep Checkoff is used appropriately, requests are held until the council meets and reviews requests before deciding to fund them or not.
The council is currently accepting requests to be reviewed at its upcoming Nov. 4 meeting, which will be held virtually.
