SUPERIOR, WI — Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College is looking to rebrand and they’re asking for the community’s feedback.
The Board of Trustees have adopted a timeline for when they hope to choose a new name, mascot and branding plan.
They hope it will take effect in the Fall 2021.
“Our College has been consistently ranked a top two-year college in the country.” said WITC President, John Will. “We believe this rebranding effort presents an opportunity to bring clarity to who we are and what we do while also modernizing our image.”
In their research, WITC leaders found confusion over the college’s name and what it stood for.
They learned 20 percent of people they surveyed from outside the WITC district thought the college’s intials stood for a radio station.
About 25 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds surveyed associated the college name with a tribal college.
About 38 percent of residents in the WITC district recognized the term “Indianhead” as a geographic region.
Half the groups surveyed rated the name as “out-of-date,” with none rating it strongly as “modern” on a five-point scale.
WITC ias asking the community to submit potential new names, mascots, or mascot name ideas by November 6.
