E-commerce company Radial and GEODIS in Americas, a third-party logistics firm, plan to hire more than 2,600 workers at their Inland Empire facilities amid a COVID-19 fueled surge in online buying leading up to the holidays.

Radial, which operates 20 fulfillment centers globally, says it’s looking to bring on more than 2,000 entry-level workers at its Rialto facility to support an “unprecedented e-commerce demand” this holiday season. The seasonal employees will be responsible for picking, sorting, packing and shipping online orders.

Adecco will host a hiring event to fill the openings in Rialto. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 20 at 685 E. Carnegie Drive, Suite 130, San Bernardino. Job seekers can call 951-205-4495 for more information, or apply online at Adecco’s Radial career page.

Radial didn’t reveal what the various jobs pay, but information from Indeed.com shows Radial fulfillment workers average $14.19 an hour.

An increase in online buying

Consumer research reveals that 66% of shoppers plan to increase their online purchases during the holidays this year. As e-commerce demand reaches new heights amid the COVID-19 pandemic, retailers are boosting their logistics workforce to keep pace.

GEODIS plans to add 8,000 seasonal jobs across its 19 U.S. campuses, including 600 at its facilities in Rialto, Fontana and Perris.

John Grubor, the firm’s head of logistics, said the pandemic has forced retailers and third-party logistics companies to reach customers where they are.

“In order to create a positive buying experience for customers, it’s important we have enough teammates at our 19 campuses to handle the increase of orders and deliveries,” Grubor said in a statement.

GEODIS is looking to add material handlers and forklift operators. Material handlers earn an average of $14.47 an hour, while forklift operators average $15.10, according to Indeed.com.

“We are now facing a bevy of new challenges in logistics and supply-chain heading into peak season, such as visibility of inventory, needing to constantly adjust fulfillment capacity, and managing product returns efficiently,” Grubor said.

Other companies are hiring

As e-commerce continues to ramp up, other companies are increasing their staffing in the Inland Empire and beyond:

Last week, Kohl’s announced it was looking to fill more than 2,500 seasonal positions at its fulfillment center in San Bernardino along with additional in-store jobs throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

DHL Supply Chain also plans to hire more than 300 warehouse workers for its Inland Empire distribution centers and 300 mail sorters for its facilities in Whittier and Compton. That Sept. 25 announcement came on the heels of the logistics firm’s broader push to hire 7,000 employees nationwide ahead of holiday shopping demand.

Amazon is looking to hire 4,900 logistics workers in the Inland Empire in addition to the 1,000 employees who were recently hired at the company’s new 640,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Beaumont. Amazon currently employs more than 91,000 people throughout California.
