CITY OF NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh’s first-ever comprehensive cultural study is underway.
The study will conduct focus groups, surveys, collect data and take inventory of a broad range of arts and cultural activities and designations in the city. The results will be used to guide economic, social and cultural growth in Newburgh, according to the project’s website.
The first focus group, geared toward artists and creative industries, will meet for a virtual workshop on Aug. 7. More workshops will be scheduled through September, according to a news release about the study issued Monday.
Earlier this year, the Newburgh Arts and Cultural Commission was awarded a $10,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the study.
A diverse group of about 20 people serving as community-based advisors from different neighborhoods, occupations and organizations in the city will provide guidance and recommendations during the study.
