Focus groups week of July 13; survey to close July 17

The town is the host for a virtual forum set for 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, to present findings and receive feedback on the progress of Connect Arlington, the town’s sustainable-transportation plan.
All members of the Arlington community are invited to participate via video conference or by calling in by phone to the event both hosted by Zoom.
Participants can expect to learn about the progress of Connect Arlington, which began in January. Town staff will present an overview of the existing conditions of Arlington’s transportation system and will share the results of the transportation survey and focus groups conducted about transportation issues.
Facilitated breakout groups will provide an opportunity for participants to share input on various topics related to transportation. The meeting will close with a facilitated question-and-answer session.
Members of the community unable to participate on the evening of the forum are invited to contribute their feedback to the transportation survey, which will close out on July 17. More than 900 responses to the transportation survey have been received to date.
The town is also seeking residents who wish to participate in three additional focus groups the week of July 13, on the subjects of “Getting Around with Disabilities” or “Mobility Impairments,” “Neighborhood Transportation Issues” and “Public Transportation.”
Interested residents may fill out an online form with their information and the focus group they want to participate in. Materials and a video recording of the forum will be available on the Sustainable Transportation Plan Advisory Committee’s website.
About the project
The 2019 annual Town Meeting approved $80,000 to fund the creation of a sustainable transportation plan for the Town of Arlington: $60,000 from town funds in the DPW budget and $20,000 from the Community Development Block Grant.
The plan aims to provide a vision for the development of the transportation system in Arlington over the next 20 years, building upon the traffic and circulation section of the master plan and its recommendations.
Goals and recommendations will be developed to prioritize next steps for projects, programs, and policies to achieve this vision. It will focus on all aspects of transportation and mobility in Arlington, including walking, bicycling, public transportation, driving, shared mobility and micromobility.
The town has contracted with NelsonNygaard Consulting Associates to complete the plan.
