BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo School of Management has long been recognized for its strong recruiting base—and this spring, the school honored several of its valued recruiting and internship partners for their impact on students’ career development.

Due to the coronavirus, the school’s Career Resource Center (CRC) postponed its April awards ceremony and will reschedule for a future date.

Claire Petrie, BS ’14, senior manager of global talent acquisition operations at Unifrax, was named CRC Alumnus of the Year. A frequent career mentor for UB School of Management students, Petrie has spoken at student club events, hosted alumni webinars, served as an admissions ambassador and participated in networking events through the CRC’s Career Passport program.

“Claire’s advice about social media presence, personal branding and professional development strategies is invaluable for our students,” says Gwen Appelbaum, assistant dean and director of the CRC. “We are grateful we can always count on Claire to share her expertise with enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and dedication. We couldn’t ask for a better alumna!”

Freed Maxick was honored as Recruiting Organization of the Year in recognition of its diverse recruiting efforts and collaboration in educating School of Management students. The accounting firm recruits across multiple programs for a variety of internships and full-time roles, and representatives often speak in Career Connections courses and present to student organizations.

Shawn Frier, BS ’90, MBA ’91, director at Freed Maxick and a previous Recruiter of the Year honoree, helps to lead this outstanding partnership for the firm. He accepted the award on Freed Maxick’s behalf, along with Julie Becht, chief human resource officer, and Nick Dentice, career coach and recruiting specialist.

From Morgan Stanley, the CRC recognized three Recruiting Partners for the Year: Mary Rose Lin, executive director; Elizabeth Maharaj-Antoo, senior manager for internal audit investment management; and Cayla Axelrod, junior campus recruiter. The Morgan Stanley team recruits on campus, virtually and by hosting students in their New York City offices—and regularly hires successful interns as full-time employees.

Outstanding Internship Partner went to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for the organization’s consistent dedication to engaging and mentoring students in meaningful internship projects. Roswell Park representatives regularly participate in on- and off-campus career events, and carefully shape their experiential learning initiatives with students’ demanding coursework in mind.

As the New Internship Partner honoree, Sterling Investment Counsel LLC was honored for creating nine equity research internships over just two semesters, in collaboration with Jay Schwartzkopf, executive in residence for finance in the School of Management.

Finally, the CRC recognized two pairs of Interns and Supervisors of the Year: Anthony Fazzino, MBA ’20, a data analytics intern at MOD-PAC Corp., and his supervisor, Daniel Wagner, operations manager; as well as Stuti Mittal, MBA ’20, an IT operations analyst intern at AAA Western and Central New York, and her supervisor, Frank D’Arrigo, director of technology and support.

The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and economic impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. The school also has been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
